I Am Your Sister Collected and Unpublished Writings of Audre Lorde

Rudolph Byrd, Johnnetta Cole, and Beverly Guy-Sheftall, eds.

Contains a representative collection of Lorde’s published essays, speeches, and diaries and selections from her unpublished writing in the Audre Lorde Collection of Spelman College. Part I is composed of groundbreaking essays from Sister Outsider and the complete text of A Burst of Light. Part II, “My Words Will Be There,” features 9 selections, four of them published for the first time, spanning the period 1976-1989. “Difference and Survival,” Part III, contains selections that provide us with evidence of Lorde’s deepening involvement in the three social movements of which she was a pioneering figure: civil rights, women’s rights, and gay and lesbian rights. Part IV adds commentary about her life and writings by the editors, as well as by bell hooks, Gloria I. Joseph and Alice Walker.
