Migrant

Maxine Trottier.

In the 1920s Mennonites from Canada in search of religious freedom established new homes in Mexico. Known there as Mononas, they school their children in German, and are exempt from military conscription. Their descendants annually leave their homes and make the long and difficult journey to Canada to work as seasonal laborers. Lyrical prose and illustrations help children to imagine what it might be like to travel with the seasons, while broadening our understanding of the reasons why many so many people in our world are on the move.
