Rethinking Early Childhood Education

This new book from Rethinking Schools starts from the premise that early childhood education is a political act, and that it necessarily involves values and vision. It puts social justice and ecological teaching front and center, with more than 40 teachers, scholars and parents contributing insightful and practical approaches to:
- prioritizing anti-bias, culturally sensitive teaching and learning;
- creating time and providing open-ended materials for children's imaginative, self-directed play;
- using curriculum approaches that are responsive to children's developmental and intellectual pursuits;
- cultivating a sense of place - of belonging to a particular patch of earth and sky - and a connection to the earth and its creatures;
- emphasizing children's socio-emotional and dispositional learning;
- learning from and standing with children's families; and
- advocating for children, families and early childhood workers.
