Tote - Read Banned Books

Efforts to ban books from libraries, schools and other public facilities continue across the country. Fortunately, those efforts are being actively opposed and stopped in their tracks in many places, as librarians, teachers, students, parents and concerned community members speak up and organize.

As usual, the primary targets are books about the experiences of Queer and gender-nonconforming folks and Black and Brown people. Books which offer young people opportunities to find themselves and learn about a broader world outside their immediate surroundings are particularly under fire.

In addition to our offering this tote bag and related T-shirt, button and sticker, we also feature books which are among those most targeted. We have also produced two posters for educators – Ten Commandments of Education – one for elementary age and the other for middle and secondary age students. These are another effort to fight back against the effort to restrict what people learn and to force us into a conservative, Christian-centered understanding of the world.
