Tenzin Gyatso, known as the 14th Dalai Lama, was called upon to assume leadership after China's invasion of Tibet in 1949-50 at the age of 15. In 1989 he received the Nobel Peace Prize. His Holiness has spoken passionately and consistently for human rights, justice, nonviolence, and living harmoniously with the Earth.
