Artist Spotlight: Rommy Torrico

Artist Spotlight: Rommy Torrico

Here at SCW we have had the privilege to work with a diverse group of amazing artists from across the United States and well beyond for many decades.

We found Rommy Torrico's work just over four years ago when looking for a powerful piece uplifting Trans people for the 2022 Peace Calendar. Their digital illustration “You are Seen, You are Loved,” fit the bill. They describe it as honoring “my undocuqueer peers... to let them know that they’re seen and that the intimate connections we have all created are one of the most beautiful legacies we will leave behind. The quiet ways in which we have made every day a day of pride.”

The following year we had the pleasure of meeting Rommy in person when they were in Syracuse for the opening of their exhibit Cabeza en las nubes (Head in the clouds) at the ArtRage Gallery. During our conversations, Rommy generously offered to design a Trans Power T-shirt for us, and to donate the artwork to support our work.

Rommy speaks about their creative work as a way, “to affirm my existence, harness my own power and make it known that I will not be erased or silenced.”

Thank you Rommy for your powerful words and creations. We appreciate the opportunity to amplify your inspiring work.
