Fight Back on Trump's Big Barbarous Law

Fight Back on Trump's Big Barbarous Law

Trump's Big Barbarous Bill is now law after enough Republicans bowed down to the emperor last week. You've likely heard plenty about the cruel, unjust aspects of the law:

  • The massive transfer of wealth from poor and working people to the rich

  • The deep cuts in Medicaid, SNAP and other benefits for low income people

  • Steep cuts to educational loans for students in need

  • Elimination of clean energy subsidies and support for coal

  • A massive increase in war spending/profiteering

  • An even more massive increase (proportionally) in anti-immigrant policing/imprisonment and detention

Despite unified Democratic opposition in both houses of Congress, the bill passed narrowly. It is a major blow to our collective work and will cause grievous harm to the most vulnerable among us. It also provides an additional opening for expanded organizing with communities which are most impacted and can join the powerful movements growing across the country.

Senator Bernie Sanders described our perspective well.

If there has ever been a time in American history when our people must stand together in the fight for economic, social, racial and environmental justice — now is that time.

In these very difficult times, despair is not an option. For the sake of our kids and grandchildren, the struggle must continue. Black, white, Latino, Asian-American, Native-American, male or female, gay or straight, let us proudly stand together and create the kind of country we know we can become.”

It's a tall task, and can feel daunting, but it's the work we are called to do!
