Grieve, Mourn and Organize

Dear friends:
When I went to bed last night things didn't look good for the national election. When I woke up, the news was worse than I could have ever imagined. Like many of you, I'm a jumble of emotion – surprise, outrage, fear, sadness, anxiety and sometimes determination.
It's too soon for clear analysis, but I thought I'd share some valuable quotes which I've found helpful to me in this moment.
"They want you to feel powerless and to surrender and to let them trample everything and you are not going to let them. You are not giving up, and neither am I. The fact that we cannot save everything does not mean we cannot save anything and everything we can save is worth saving.”
-Rebecca Solnit
"This isn't the end. I promise you, this is not the end. And we have to regroup, and we have to continue to fight, and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible. It's possible."
-Jon Stewart
There’s not a moment to lose. We must harness our fears, our grief, and yes, our anger, to resist the dangerous policies Donald Trump will unleash on our country.”
-Katrina vanden Heuvel
We'll have more to say in the coming weeks, and welcome hearing your thoughts and ideas about ways that Syracuse Cultural Workers can do our part to defend the values we hold dear.

PS: I look forward to joining some of the webinars and online gatherings where movement leaders will analyze the election results and think about how we move forward effectively in the coming weeks, months and years. Here's a couple we're aware of: Election Response Center, Movement for Black Lives, in addition to following ongoing coverage on Democracy Now.
