Trump: Fascist to the Core

Trump: Fascist to the Core

As we approach the final week of campaigning, there is increasing attention to Trump's affinity for Fascism. We, and many others on the left have called this out since his 2016 campaign, but now that language is coming from former Generals who worked closely with Trump during his troubled tenure as President.

Yesterday, I spent the day canvassing in Pennsylvania, trying to persuade a few people to go out and vote for Kamala Harris. As is typical, most people weren't home, many others didn't want to be bothered, but I had a few meaningful conversations. It was a mixed experience. I don't love it, but it feels so important. There were thousands of other people out that day canvassing, making phone calls, texting or sending postcards to potential voters in the seven key swing states.

Over the next eight days, all of us who care about democracy have a choice to take whatever actions we can – large or small – to impact this election. I hope you'll find ways to do so. Talking directly to people in our lives (particularly in swing states, or in contested congressional elections, is another important action). If you want to connect with coordinated canvassing, phoning, etc. here's one source to do so. There are many others.

At moments of despair, when I begin to ponder life under a second Trump presidency, I pull myself back and ask what I can do to make a difference. I don't want to look back and regret my hesitation to act.

PS: After Kamala wins, we'll take a little time to rest, but then get right back to work, because we know her election is about creating a more fertile ground for future organizing, not a victory on the issues about which we care so deeply.
