It took more than two decades to make the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) a reality. This important document was opposed by only four countries: USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia. The Declaration has the potential to dramatically alter relations between indigenous peoples and governments around the world.
Haudenosaunee leaders, including Oren Lyons, played a key role in advocating for the declaration. They continue pushing for it to be meaningfully implemented.
