EARLY SELECTIONS FROM OUR COMMUNAL BOOK OF NON-FICTION

So many of us come here to give our youth, health, and sweat to this land and people only to return to our home countries old, sick, hurt, or empty-handed. A few even return dead. What mark will remain of our time living in this country? What will be said about us through the generations?

We want to be known in our own terms: to be truly known, not only as migrants, or workers, but also as the myriad other roles we have played in the unbelievable and winding path of our lives.

To begin with, we are storytellers. . .

Tantos venimos aquí a dar nuestra juventud, salud, y esfuerzo a esta tierra y gente solamente para regresar a nuestros países de origen viejos, enfermos, heridos, o con las manos vacías. Unos pocos incluso vuelven muertos. ¿Qué marca dejaremos del tiempo que hemos vivido en este país? ¿Qué se dirá de nosotros a través de las generaciones?

Queremos ser conocidos en nuestros propios términos: conocidos de verdad, no solo como migrantes o trabajadores sino también como los incontables otros roles que hemos jugado en el increíble y serpenteado sendero de nuestras vidas.
